April Wrap-Up (2018)

Hello everyone, Victoria here! And today I'm so excited to share with you my wrap-up for the month of April! This month, I read books, which I am pretty disappointed with, but I was pretty busy. Sadly, I feel myself starting to fall into a tiny reading slump, so hopefully, I can recover from that in May. So, let's just hop right into my thoughts and ratings on these wonderful books!

1.) Autoboyography by Christina Lauren
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️   / ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️  (5/5!)

I started reading this book in March, but I finished it the first week of this month. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK💖 ! I was hesitant to pick this one up because the plot didn't seem super interesting to me....I'm not even sure why because it was wonderful in the end. But yeah, this book was great! :) I really loved the love story between Sebastian and Tanner, as I haven't read a lot of books with gay main characters. I just can't even explain how much I fell in love with their love hahaha....anyways...yeah, 5/5 stars! If you haven't picked this one up yet, be sure to do so!!

2.) Love Life and the List by Kasie West
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️   / ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️  (5/5!)

This book was great as well! I was really in the mood for contemporaries this month, and I'm super happy I picked this one up! A few years ago, I read The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West and I was not a fan. Since I wasn't a big fan of The Fill-In Boyfriend, I was a little bit hesitant to give one of  Kasie's other books a try. I'm so glad I did though! It fulfilled my craving for a good contemporary! The plot of the story was something that I hadn't read in contemporary before, as our main character, Abby, is an artist. This book gave me some serious Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson vibes, and I think I liked this one even more! :) I strongly encourage you to give this book a try if you're in the mood for a fluffy contemporary!

3.) Blood Water Paint by Joy McCollough
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️  / ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️  (3/5)

*TRIGGER WARNING- If you are at all triggered by rape, sexual assault, or abuse, I would recommend staying away from this one*

I have really mixed feelings about this one. It was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, but sadly I was quite disappointed about it. This book follows the life of artist Artemisia Gentileschi who was an Italian Baroque painter. This novel, written in verse, details the hardships faced by the young Gentileschi as she was raped and verbally abused by her father...all while creating masterpieces. This book was pretty confusing for me...I was very lost while reading most of this book. The descriptions of her rape and abuse were terrifying and frankly made me uncomfortable to a point where I didn't want to continue reading. I did think this novel worked well written in verse, but it took me almost a week to read, whereas I would read other verse books in an hour or so. Overall, I didn't hate it, but it just didn't live up to all of my expectations. Maybe this was because I had so highly anticipated it, but yeah...just mentally prepare yourself if you plan on picking this up!

These are all the books that I read in April! Be sure to check out my TBR for May to see what I'm planning on reading this month and let me know in the comments if you've read any of these books! See you next week with another new post!

-xoxo Victoria
