Letting Go of Gravity by Meg Leder: Review

Hello everyone, Victoria here! Today I'm going to be reviewing Letting Go of Gravity by Meg Leder!

*I GOT THIS AS AN ARC TO REVIEW FOR MY LOCAL BOOKSTORE. ITS EXPECTED PUBLICATION IS JULY 17, 2018*

Letting Go of Gravity
By: Meg Leder

Rating: 3/5 stars

Synopsis: "Twins Parker and Charlie are polar opposites.

Where Charlie is fearless, Parker is careful.

Charlie is confident while Parker aims to please.

Charlie is outgoing and outspoken; Parker is introverted and reserved.

And of course, there’s the one other major difference: Charlie got leukemia. Parker didn’t.

But now that Charlie is officially in remission, life couldn’t be going better for Parker. She’s landed a prestigious summer internship at the hospital and is headed to Harvard in the fall to study pediatric oncology—which is why the anxiety she’s felt since her Harvard acceptance is so unsettling. And it doesn’t help that her relationship with Charlie has been on the rocks since his diagnosis.

Enter Finn, a boy who’s been leaving strange graffiti messages all over town. Parker can’t stop thinking about those messages, or about Finn, who makes her feel free for the first time: free to doubt, free to make mistakes, and free to confront the truth that Parker has been hiding from for a long time.

That she keeps trying to save Charlie, when the person who really needs saving is herself."

My Thoughts: I thought this book was ok. Not the worst book I've ever read, but not the best thing I've read this year. Ok, there's a lot to talk about with this one, so let's just get right into it...

-ARC: Ok so I got this as an ARC in a program that I'm involved in at my local bookstore. I picked this up probably in January, and just got around to reading it now. I think my expectations were just too high. I was really intrigued by the concept, but overall, I was pretty underwhelmed while reading it.

-Boring: OH MY GOODNESS THE MIDDLE OF THIS BOOK WAS SOOOOO BORING TO ME. It felt like nothing happened for 50 pages and I barely could push myself through reading it. Most of the book was somewhat interesting but some parts were extremely boring. Though I understand that this book is definitely more character driven than plot driven, I think that the plot could have been a bit more interesting. There were a lot of things going on in the story and it was a lot to keep track of all at once.

-Cover: I really do like the cover...I think it is super pretty and aesthetically pleasing!

-Plot: I liked the plot for the most part. I haven't read any books with a plot similar to this one, so it was a refreshing read. There was a mini-plot drawn out throughout the whole book, which I really liked...it is related to the title of the book. :) I thought the sibling dynamic between our main characters, Parker and Charlie, was interesting to read about and had me laughing at times.

-Message: I really resonated with the message of this book. I think that the author did a good job of conveying the message of not taking life for granted and always keeping perspective.

That concludes my review of Letting Go of Gravity by Meg Leder. Overall, I did enjoy this book, but there were some things that bothered me about it, which is why I rated it 3/5 stars. Again, this book comes out on July 17, 2018. Let me know in the comments if you plan to read this! See you all next week with loads of new posts (its probably going to be 3 new posts)!

-xoxo Victoria
