Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch: Review! 🍧

Hi everyone, Victoria here! Today I wanted to do a review (you know since I haven't done one for like 3 months lol) of Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch!

Love and Gelato
By: Jenna Evans Welch

Rating: 5/5 stars!

Synopsis: “I made the wrong choice.”

"Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more."

My thoughts:

Let's jump into the things that made me fall in love with this book and give it a 5-star rating-

Setting
This book is set in Italy (mostly in Florence), which I absolutely loved. Many locations and tourist attractions located in Italy were mentioned throughout the book, which gave a lot of description to the setting. Of course, Italy is the perfect setting for a summer romance, and it couldn't have played into the story any better!

Characters
I really related to the main character, Lina, even though I haven't experienced many of the things she went through in this book. However, Lina felt really relatable, which I  thought was one of this books' strongest assets. I also really liked Ren, Lina's love interest. Although he's not my favorite, (not even close to Maxon of The Selection Series who is my forever book boyfriend) I did enjoy reading about Lina and Ren's relationship. The only character that I didn't like was Howard, who is the man Lina stays with in Italy, per her mother's request. He came off kind of creepy to me, but other than that, I really enjoyed all the other characters.

Romance
Who could say no to an amazingly cute European teen romance?! As I previously mentioned, I fell in love with Ren and Lina's relationship and I had a great time watching it progress throughout the novel. Considering this is a contemporary novel, you would expect the romance to be pretty good, but Ren and Lina's exceeded my expectations! The only part where I cringed was at the end of the book but hey, every moment of the book can't be completely swoon-worthy!

Plot Twist(ish)
Ok so I literally NEVER guess plot twists when reading. But the one in this book I saw coming right away...literally after reading like 3 chapters. Therefore, I wasn't surprised by it and wasn't really interested in reading about it that much but it added some more drama to the story. I don't want to say what the plot twist is because I don't want to spoil it....so to find out you must read the book!! 😜

--------------------

Overall, I really loved this book and had tons of fun reading it! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cute summer travel novel.
